Last week, we started a series about Tabgha, an area on the north shore of the Galilee believed to be where Jesus called the disciples, preached the Sermon on the Mount, and where tradition observes Him multiplying the bread and fish for 5,000+ men, women, and children.
But there's one more thing believed to have happened in this area, and 1 more church dedicated to it: Jesus cooking the fish on the rock for Peter, charging Him to feed His sheep in John 21.
This was a new place for me to visit. If you aren't on a tour bus, you need to leave your vehicle near the Church of the Multiplication and walk back to the street, walk about 1 block and then you enter the beautiful gardens:The church itself is built on a large rock that tradition says is where Jesus stood and called to the disciples in John 21.
Nearby is the harbor:
The inside is simple, with the altar being the rest of the rock:
Can we talk about the windows, though? WOW!
That's it for the tour. It's a simple place, and it can't be proven Jesus stood on that rock exactly. Like I said last week, we know He was in that area of the Galilee, so it could be it. Or it could not. What matters is that this story is real, and we're seeing a possible location for it.
One more thing... I spotted this sign on the way out and thought it was a beautiful poem:
